Hillview Client Renovation

Last year, I had the opportunity to work on a full home renovation for a sweet family in the Hillview neighbourhood. They had lived in this home for many years, and now that their kids were grown, they were ready to upgrade it to make it more functional for their current needs.

The main pain points were the bathrooms. They were all outdated, had barely any storage, and just needed a refresh. The flooring was cracking, and carpets were worn, and years of children playing had taken a toll on the rest of the house as well.

They wanted fresh and modern, but also wanted it to be colorful and have some unique patterns and style. The design was achieved by mixing neutral finishes and wood tones with modern elements like black doors and hardware throughout the home. Then, relaxing colors and patterns were layered on top of those.

After the design was completed and finishes were chosen, I passed off the building phase to Mark at Hersky Homes. He and his team did an amazing job bringing the vision to life.

Enjoy these before and afters.

In the first bathroom, we took out the wall at the end of it that was an old, unused closet and doubled the bathroom space, which made room for a spacious shower. The wife had it in her heart to have teal tile somewhere, so we made this bathroom her little sanctuary of color and pattern.

In the family room, they needed more functional storage for their entertainment and other collections, so a custom entertainment unit was built by Cupboards Express to accommodate them. We also unified all the open spaces by painting them the same color, and then brought back some color to the built-ins and some of the textiles. There was different flooring in each room, so the flooring and railings were also updated, pulling the whole space together.

On the top floor, there was a main bathroom and an ensuite bathroom that were dark and dated. We upgraded everything and lightened up the bathroom completely. The palette of these bathrooms stayed more neutral as a compromise between the couple. She got her fun and colorful downstairs bathroom, and he could have a modern neutral upstairs bathroom.
